L’attività del ricercatore riguarderà un approfondito studio per definire un processo innovativo di laser additive manufacturing che, mediante polveri metalliche, sia in grado di ripristinare, senza compromettere le caratteristiche e la funzionalità del materiale base, le geometrie dei componenti meccanici propri del settore aeronautico che, dopo il funzionamento, presentino superfici usurate o danneggiate. Il processo dovrà permettere, nell’ambito delle normali attività di Manutenzione, Revisione e Riparazione (MRO) del velivolo, il recupero di componenti ad altissimo contenuto tecnologico e di elevato valore unitario, attualmente non riparabili. Il processo dovrà essere definito in tutti i parametri operativi e dovrà prevedere tutti gli accorgimenti innovativi necessari affinché risulti efficiente, sostenibile ed ecocompatibile, riducendo drasticamente gli scarti di manutenzione e dimezzando l’energia necessaria per la riparazione di un pezzo rispetto a quella necessaria per la produzione di uno totalmente nuovo, senza, tra l’altro, produrre scarti di lavorazione e utensili usurati o impiegare lubro-refrigeranti e sostanze chimiche. Infine, il processo dovrà garantire i requisiti di affidabilità, ripetibilità e sicurezza, nelle misure richieste dal settore aeronautico.
The activity of the researcher will concern a detailed study to define an innovative process of laser additive manufacturing that, through metal powders, must be able to restore, without compromising the features and functionality of the base material, the geometry of the mechanical components typical of the aviation industry that, after working, present worn or damaged surfaces. The process will allow, in the ordinary Maintenance, Revision and Overhaul (MRO) operations of aircraft, the recovery of components with high technological content and high unit value, at present not repairable. The process must be defined in all operating parameters and must provide all the innovative devices necessary to make it efficient, environmentally sound and sustainable, drastically reducing the waste of maintenance and halving the energy required for the repair of a workpiece with respect to that required for the production of a totally new one, without, inter alia, produce chips and worn tools or use metalworking fluids and chemicals. Finally, the process must ensure the requirements of reliability, repeatability and safety, in the measures required by the aviation industry.
